Navigating the transition of being a parent or family member of a college student can be challenging, especially when there are thousands of miles between you. International students often face unique difficulties as well. Adapting to new environments, meeting new people and adjusting to different cultures and expectations can be quite overwhelming.
As the parent or family of an international student, understanding your evolving role during this transition is important. Families are critical support systems that people can turn to for comfort and reassurance. However, it’s also beneficial for you to be informed about the resources available at the university.
At NC State, there are numerous resources designed to help students who may feel overwhelmed and Parents and Families Services is committed to providing parents and families with the information and resources that will help support this often nerve-wracking transition.
