5,000 Steps: A tour of NC State’s Hallowed Places

NC State has recognized nine irreplaceable buildings, landscapes and natural settings on its Raleigh campus that have accrued significant meaning to students, faculty, staff and alumni over time. We call them Hallowed Places. Take a tour of the seven sites within walking distance of the Memorial Belltower and learn about all nine spots on this tour led by University Communications writer, editor and keeper of all things historical about NC State, Tim Peeler (’87).
Along the way, we’ll talk about university folklore, icons and legends, as well as the hallowed history of the ground that lies between the tunnels and under the bricks of North Carolina’s largest university.
NOTE: This is a walking tour. It is not strenuous, but it will move quickly to stay within the allotted hour. Walking shoes are recommended.

A free collecting and exhibiting museum with more than 35,000 objects in the permanent collection, we make the art in the museum collection easily accessible to the NC State community and public. From 19th-century Japanese color woodblock prints to antique North Carolina quilts, our objects span cultures, disciplines and designs.

The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed botanic garden located in Raleigh, North Carolina with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the southeast United States. Plants especially adapted to Piedmont North Carolina conditions are collected and evaluated in an effort to find superior plants for use in southern landscapes.

Game Day presented by the University Activities Board (UAB)

University Activities Board and Parents and Families Services are happy to announce our first annual family weekend Game Day! We will have board games, howling cow ice cream, crafts, and will even host a family feud starting at 11:30 a.m.! There is no cost to attend. Games and Ice cream are first-come, first-served and do not require pre-registration.
If interested in participating in family feud, please have your student fill out the Family Feud Interest Form and we will send them more information. If you have any questions, please email uab-spirit1@ncsu.edu. We hope to see you there!

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Training

Anyone can help save a life from suicide. Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training is a community-based, nationally recognized suicide prevention training for students, faculty, staff and families! This training is at no cost to attendees and lunch will be provided.

Mock Classes for Pack Family Champions

Harambee 2024 is centered around unity and connection within the Wolfpack. Our theme for the 24-25 AY is Black 365°. We pursue this theme by fostering year-round support while recognizing that the Black experience is pluralistic, circular, interconnected, and reaching into the future.
Harambee! strives to link our WolfPack community to a wide array of resources and services available on and off campus. Harambee! is an outcome-based program focused on community connections and will facilitate greater access to academic support, mentorship programs, cultural organizations, and wellness services.
As a unifier of our community, our holistic approach ensures that students feel continuously supported and empowered, promoting their academic success and personal growth. This year’s Harambee will play a crucial role in creating a thriving environment where students can see the strength of the pack and themselves as a part of the pack.

What’s better than BINGO? BINGO for a great cause! Join Parents and Families Services as we partner with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for a game night that will promote and support an organization near and dear to the Wolfpack Family.
How it works.
Each player will receive a 3 or 9-game playing sheet for as many games as you want throughout the evening, offering as many chances to win as you want to play. Get a BINGO, and pick your prize. Don’t worry, everyone’s a winner in our game! We will highlight the Kay Yow legacy and offer a silent auction on-site to raise additional funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
All players will receive playing cards and markers upon arrival. The last game of the night will start no later than 9:20 p.m. There is no age limit, but seats are limited, and tickets are required.

Fun Run (or Walk) for a Cause
Just shy of a 5k, the 2.9-mile race will start and end around beautiful Lake Raleigh on NC State’s Centennial Campus! Timing and tracking will not be recorded formally. Participants interested in time-tracking will need to plan to do so independently.

Sailpack Parents and Families Fun Sail

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Sailing Club at NC State and the NC State Intercollegiate Sailing Team are excited to invite parents, families, and potential members for an excellent and free sailing session at Lake Crabtree County Park. No experience is needed. We’ll provide basic instruction, safety gear, and on-the-water cruises. There will also be skills demos and yummy refreshments. All ages are welcome. We can’t wait to share the joy of sailing with you!
