Prologue to the Pack

A book club for First-Year families.

We are excited to announce the latest initiative for incoming Wolfpack Families, a first-year book club! Prologue to the Pack is an opportunity for the parents and families of incoming first-year students to build community and connect with other Wolfpack Families as you, too prepare for the fall semester in a meaningful way.

Through a series of discussion prompts and virtual meetups, participants will dive into Marjorie Savage’s insightful book, You’re on Your Own (But I’m Here If You Need Me)—a trusted guide for families navigating the transition to college life; reflecting on your evolving role and gaining valuable strategies for the year ahead.

Purpose
Provide incoming families with an opportunity to:

  • Connect and share space with other Pack Families who are going through a similar experience.
  • Normalize the common emotions parents and families feel at this time.
  • Understand the many ways college life has changed for Gen Z students.
  • Explore practical tips for navigating college life and coach them toward independence.

Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss how the key concepts of each chapter relate to their family’s transition.
