Prologue to the Pack

A book club for new NC State families.

We are excited to announce the latest initiative for incoming Wolfpack Families, a summer book club! Prologue to the Pack is an opportunity for the parents and families of incoming students to build community and connect with other Wolfpack Families as you, too, prepare for the fall semester in a meaningful way.

Register today!

What is Prologue to the Pack?
Through a series of discussion prompts and virtual meetups, participants will dive into Marjorie Savage’s insightful book, You’re on Your Own (But I’m Here If You Need Me)—a trusted guide for families navigating the transition to college life, reflecting on your evolving role and gaining valuable strategies for the year ahead.

Purpose
Provide incoming families with an opportunity to:

  • Connect and share space with other Pack Families who are going through a similar experience.
  • Normalize the common emotions parents and families feel at this time.
  • Understand the many ways college life has changed for Gen Z students.
  • Explore practical tips for navigating college life and coach them toward independence.

Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:

  • Identify and discuss how the key concepts of each chapter relate to their family’s transition.
  • Reflect on the content, and share how it relates to their experiences.
  • Gain a network of support that will continue throughout the upcoming academic year

How it Works
We are offering two participation levels for the 2026 Prologue to the Pack book club.
Please read the following information carefully and you’ll select the option that best suits you on your registration form.

Session dates and times are the same regardless of your selection.

Tier 1: Prologue to the Pack Cohort (space limited)
Cohort participants receive a free copy of the book, attend at least 3 out of 4 sessions, and actively engage in discussions (chat, breakout rooms, reflections, etc.).

To ensure sufficient time for delivery, the Tier 1 cohort will close when it reaches capacity or on June 1, whichever comes first.

Tier 2: Prologue to the Pack Open Sessions (unlimited)
Participants provide their own copy of “You’re on Your Own” (available for purchase on Amazon) and attend as many sessions as their schedules permit. Engage actively in discussions or simply observe through chat, breakout rooms, reflections, etc.

Prologue to the Pack 2026 Session Schedule

  • Thursday, June 11: Introduction and Section 1
  • Tuesday, June 23: Recap and Section 2
  • Tuesday, July 7: Recap and Section 3
  • Thursday, July 23: Section 4 and Wrap Up
