Student Employment at NC State
Hello Wolfpack families!
With the semester kicking off, I’m sure your student(s) have questions regarding employment: Where can I apply? Are there any positions available? Can my work schedule work with my academic schedule? Will having a job and classes at the same time be too much? Is it okay to obtain a job even without a car? The answers to these questions may vary for every student, but employment will always be available on our NC State campus!
For starters, there are positions available at University Housing, University Libraries, Wellness and Recreation, the Student Services Center and more! Please share this information with your student and let them explore the multitude of options available. I listed broad options, but there are also job opportunities that are major-specific!
Balancing a job and classes at the same time will help your student learn how to manage their time. These jobs challenge their social skills: public speaking, event organizing, collaborating with others and more! This is a great opportunity for your student(s) to learn and hone these skills. Regardless, NC State campus jobs will put your student’s academics first. Shift schedules will work around your student’s academic schedule and will be open to any future changes in their availability due to exams or other conflicts.
I believe having a campus job is extremely beneficial to your student’s journey here at NC State. I began working at NC State this summer, and it’s helped improve my public speaking and event-management abilities immensely. Different jobs will improve different skill sets, but overall, these campus jobs will have a great impact on your student(s). I currently do not have a car to drive to my workplace and thanks to our NC State WolfLine, I’ve been able to get to work just fine. Jobs can be nerve-racking or overwhelming (especially when balancing them with NC State courses), but I hope your student eventually opens up to the idea of applying to one!
Mark your calendars! We hope you will join us for our upcoming Facebook Live event on Tuesday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. EST to learn about on-campus student employment.
