Hello Wolfpack Families! NC State offers many amazing opportunities for students, but one of my favorites is the study abroad program. The Study Abroad Office works closely with students to find a program that meets their degree requirements, as well as their interests. There is a wide range of programs that vary from semester-long to summer programs, and there are scholarship opportunities available to students. The Study Abroad Office makes every effort to accommodate the program that works best for your student, as well as direct them to funding opportunities, both within the university and to outside resources. 

I had the opportunity to participate in the Spain: Language and Culture in Valencia program last summer, and it was an incredible experience that I will never forget. This program combined classroom instruction with hands-on cultural and language immersion, providing a learning experience unlike any other I have received. Throughout the application process, I felt supported by the staff at the Study Abroad Office, and I appreciated hearing firsthand student experiences with studying abroad. During the program, I had the opportunity to make new friends, participate in cultural activities and exchanges and also gain a newfound sense of independence, appreciation and confidence. 

I would encourage any parent or family member to talk with their student about the many doors opened to students who have studied abroad, from within the university to potential employers. Encourage your student to explore the programs that interest them, check funding opportunities and pay close attention to the deadlines, as many are in the early fall. There is also the Study Abroad Fair on October 8 that your student can attend for more information. Studying abroad has been the highlight of my time here at NC State, and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
