Summer Routines and Success

Summer is here! Graduations draw to a close, textbooks are put to the side and the warmer weather is finally rolling in at NC State University. Much like the transitions of the seasons bring change, the transition from being a student constantly studying and attending classes to being on summer break can be an interesting one to navigate. Whether or not students fill their break with work experiences, various academic courses, or simply take time to relax and reset for the upcoming fall semester, it is important to maintain good habits and routines throughout the long break to ensure a smooth transition back to campus life come August 18th (the first day of the fall semester).

As a rising Junior, I am heading into my second summer as an NC State University student.

I began the long break with an exciting trip to Europe with my parents, but this summer is unique to me as it is my first summer living away from my home state of Virginia, though working in the Office of Parents and Families Services (PFS). While this has been a significant change, it has been exciting to learn new routines and create positive habits for myself that will be imperative going into the fall semester. While working in the PFS office, I will have the opportunity to help out with Orientation Sessions, Summer Send-offs, and other similar exciting events this summer! On top of this, I will also be training to be a campus tour guide through the University Ambassador Program – it will be an exciting time of influencing the next generation of the Wolfpack!

To maintain an academic routine throughout the summer months and lighten my load for the upcoming semester, I have also decided to take summer courses through NC State. These courses are known as Summer Sessions and have been imperative to my journey as a student here, as they have helped me take lighter loads in certain semesters and have allowed me to get ahead in certain courses. I would highly recommend these sessions to anyone looking to do the same!

No matter what students are doing over the long summer break, it is important to maintain good habits and routines, or pick up new ones, in order to set themselves up for success for the upcoming semester.
