On Campus During Spring Break-Suggested Activities

Spring Break is a time for many students to relax and unwind after the first half of the semester. Some students may choose to go home for break, go on vacation, or stay on campus. Staying on campus during this time when everyone else is away can be hard for some students. If your student is planning to stay on campus during the break, please see the list below of things your student(s) could do on campus and in the Raleigh area.

Carmichael Gym has a lot to offer to students, and Spring Break is a great time to take advantage of smaller crowds in the gym. It is also a great time to catch up on both physical and mental wellness. Though the gym will remain open, some facilities such as the climbing center will be closed. For a full list of facility hours during spring break, see this link. Nature walks are a great way to explore the outdoors to get some exercise. Lake Raleigh, which is located on the southern side of Centennial Campus is easily accessible for hiking and biking, fishing and disc golf.

If your student(s) enjoy art, they can visit the Gregg Museum of Art + Design located on campus. There is also the North Carolina Museum of Art, which is near NC State’s campus. The North Carolina Museum of Art also offers walking trails that feature some outdoor art installations. The best part is that admission to both museums is free!

Two other free museums close to NC State’s campus are the North Carolina Museum of History and the Museum of Natural Sciences. These two museums are located across from each other and attendance is free as well. They are located in downtown Raleigh, so their location makes them perfect for dining at a local restaurant and exploring the city on the same day!

I hope this list of things to do off and on-campus over Spring Break was helpful, and I hope you will encourage your student(s) to look into these activities if they are staying on campus over Spring Break!
