Move-in weekend is a milestone filled with excitement, pride and a few moments of transition for students and families alike. As your student embarks on their NC State journey, we know this experience is meaningful for the entire family.

This year, Parents and Families Services and University Housing are excited to introduce Wolfpack Family Paws, a new move-in tradition designed to welcome families, provide helpful resources and create meaningful moments of connection during this important transition.

Leave Your Student a Letter of Love and Encouragement

One of the special experiences available at Wolfpack Family Paws stations is our Letters of Love and Encouragement activity.

Before you head home, take a few moments to write your student a personal note they can receive after move-in. Share a favorite memory, words of encouragement, advice for the year ahead or remind them how proud you are. Your handwritten words will serve as a meaningful reminder that even as your student begins this new chapter, they continue to have a strong support system cheering them on. All letters will be delivered 4-6 weeks after the first day of classes (FDOC).

Stop by a Wolfpack Family Paws Station During Move-In

Throughout move-in weekend, Wolfpack Family Paws stations will be located at nineteen locations across our residential communities. Families are invited to stop by, rest, refuel, recharge and take a moment of pause. All of the following areas will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Thursday, Aug. 13 – Saturday, Aug. 15.

Because a few words can make a big difference, here’s how you can participate in Letters of Love and Encouragement

1. Visit a Wolfpack Family Paws station during move-in.
2. Write your letter using the supplies provided.
3. Address your envelope clearly with:
   • Student’s full first and last name
   • Residence hall
4. Seal your envelope and place it in the collection box.
5. University Housing will deliver your letter to your student’s residence hall as a special surprise 4-6 weeks into the semester.

Starting college is a major transition, and your encouragement matters. A simple handwritten note can provide comfort, motivation, and a reminder that your student is always connected to the people who support them most.
