The 2024 Family of the Year is…
The Moore Family from Raleigh, NC!
Alana Moore, a senior in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, along with her family, was recognized at the NC State v. NIU football game by Chancellor Woodson on Saturday, Sept. 28 after being named the 2024 Family of the Year. She was joined on-field by her family Stan, Laura (Class of 1985), Victoria (Class of 2022) and Alex (Class of 2024).
Read her award-winning nomination below.
My family’s legacy and loyalty to NC State dates back to 1985 when my mom, Laura, entered as a freshman and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication, Class of 1989. Fast forward 35 years, and my oldest sister, Victoria, followed in my mom’s footsteps, becoming a proud member of the Pack. She was also a communication major with a public relations concentration and graduated in the top 10% of her class in 2022. Then came my middle sister, Alexandra, who studied applied nutrition science and graduated in 2024.
I heard wonderful things from my mom and sisters about their NC State experience, and since they’re my biggest role models, there was no doubt in my mind that State was the place for me! It’s truly the most mind-blowing occurrence to look back on because none of us would’ve ever guessed that four out of five of our family members would end up going to the same school. My sisters and I were even at State at the same time for a year — one freshman, one junior and one senior. Yes, you read that correctly! I can only imagine the financial challenge that must have been for my parents. I’m grateful every day for their endless support and shared passion for this iconic university.
I’m in my senior year, majoring in communication with a media concentration and minoring in journalism. I’m cherishing my remaining time as a student, especially in the midst of football season — the best time of the year! My family has lived in Raleigh my whole life, and Wolfpack Athletics has always been the glue that has strengthened our bond, building treasured family memories. Originally a “house divided,” the Moore women even managed to convert my die-hard Tar Heel dad, Stan, to the Wolfpack way of life. He now bleeds red!
My sisters were both active in sororities and multiple student organizations, and I’ve been a dedicated member of Ladies in Red since I was a freshman, working diligently as their previous president and current business manager of three years. It has been an honor to perform at university functions and represent NC State at community events, empowering and inspiring others through song, as well as promoting our school’s values. One memorable highlight was singing at the Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony at PNC (Victoria’s graduation) in the presence of our esteemed chancellor and fellow music lover, Randy Woodson. What a full-circle moment it would be if Ladies in Red is selected to perform at my Spring Commencement this year.
I can assure you that three young women attending NC State over a span of six years was no small feat. We always make it a priority to attend State concerts, fundraisers and athletic events. It would be an honor to represent NC State as the 2024 Family of the Year because the Moore family is, and will always be, loyal members of the Pack. Thank you for your consideration. I would love to end my college career with a bang and secure this title for the family that means the world to me.
Congratulations, Alana!
