Course Registration Advice

As a second-year NC State student I have managed course registration for the past four semesters. There are many things to consider before registering for courses to make for an easy, smooth semester. Here are three tips to share with your student before they enroll for the Fall 2023 semester

  1. Check the distance & time of classes

When creating my class schedules, I consider the distance I must travel between classes and the time allotted. All students have different preferences, and they must build a schedule that is best suited for them. I opt for a class schedule that begins later in the day since I prefer to study late at night and sleep in. Some of my peers have the same preference as me while others I know are early birds who like to schedule their classes at 8:30 a.m.

  1. Check Pack Portal and WolfTech Gradient

Information is available to students before they decide whether to enroll in a particular class. This information includes; the building name and location, class start and end time, teacher, and credit hours offered. In your student’s MyPack Portal account, the enrollment wizard will have all the information necessary for figuring this out. I ensure that my classes are within walking distance and precede each other so that I can go to all my classes for the day and won’t have to linger in between. My secret tip is to check WolfTech Gradient to view grade distributions professors have had in recent semesters to gauge if a class is a good fit.

  1. Meet with your advisor

Students should meet with their advisors to ensure their class schedule will allow them to graduate on time with the degree sought. Creating an adequate class schedule is the first step to having a successful semester.
