Resources for Academic Success
One of the things I am most grateful for as a NC State student is the vast amount of resources the University offers. I have personally utilized some of these services and know there are many more to explore. As the Wolfpack enters the fourth week of the spring semester and midterms quickly approach, it is important for your student to be aware of the various services available to aid them in academic success.
Libraries
NC State has two main libraries, D.H. Hill Jr. Library and James B. Hunt Jr. Library located on Main and Centennial campuses, respectively. Hill Library is one of my favorite places to work on assignments. As a student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, it is conveniently located on Hillsborough Street near most of my classes. I find the quiet and comfortable environment peaceful with limited distractions. Both libraries are open 24 hours and have many resources. Students can reserve study rooms, rent textbooks, borrow technology, receive academic assistance like writing support and tutoring from the Academic Success Center and a wealth of other services.
Career Development Center
Now is the time to search and apply for summer internships. As a Career Ambassador, I highly recommend you encourage your student to take advantage of the Career Development Center. The upcoming CareerCON on March 27th, featuring keynote speaker Kala Taylor, will give students the opportunity to learn about professional development from experts. Students can receive interview practice, resume critiques and professional clothes from the Career Development Center to help transition them into a future career.
Student Success GPS
GPS is the tool that every student needs. With the app, students can schedule appointments with various campus offices, view key events on campus and much more! GPS even allows undergraduate students to form study groups to connect with people in their classes. The different features give students easy access to advising and tutoring.
Wellness and Recreation Center
College can be stressful for many students. It is important to note that their mental and physical health is just as important as academics. The Wellness and Recreation Center offers many wellness coaching options to help students lead a healthy life. I personally attend the drop-in spaces, a casual non-committed way to find support and meet other students.
With the end of the school year right around the corner, I hope your student will make use of these resources that NC State has to offer.
