THE JERNIGAN FAMILY

Parents and Families Services is proud to announce this year’s Family of the Year Award recipient! This special honor celebrates a family nominated by their student for their exceptional support, encouragement and Wolfpack pride.

Congratulations to AbbyGayle Jernigan, a senior in the College of Engineering, for her award-winning essay honoring her family and being selected as the 2025 Family of the Year.

The Jernigan Family, including her father, Pete, mother, Gayle and sisters Sara and Elizabeth, is from Fuquay-Varina and has strong ties to NC State. Following in her dad’s footsteps, a 1990 graduate from the College of Engineering, and her sister, a transfer student, AbbyGayle recognized her family’s steadfast love and encouragement, writing:

“Through all four and a half years of my time at NC State University, my family has been nothing short of amazing.

I want to show my gratitude for their continued love and support, but most importantly, I want to show my dad how much he means to me through this nomination.“
